Meet a Wayspring Engagement Specialist

Matt@2x

Matt Kluckowski doesn’t just understand the recovery journey—he’s lived it.  After a decade in active substance use, Matt found his way to recovery and committed his life to helping others on the same path.

Today, as a Wayspring Engagement Specialist in Louisville, he meets people where they are—literally. He spends his days out in the community, connecting with individuals who may benefit from Wayspring's services, whether it's support for substance use disorder or help with basic life necessities like housing, food, transportation, or phone access.

Matt's day-to-day work includes door-to-door outreach, scheduling appointments, following up with community providers, and delivering food boxes or other essentials to members in need. His main goal? To build lasting trust and keep members engaged in their journey, whatever that may look like. He understands that recovery isn't linear and shares that some members see him as a friend who checks in weekly. His empathy, consistency, and genuine support make all the difference.

While he acknowledges the challenges of engaging members who may be hesitant or not ready for treatment, Matt knows that showing up without judgment and offering help—without pressure—can open doors over time. "I want them to know I'll be there even if they're not ready yet," he says. "Because when they are, I'll already be there."

When asked what drives him to do this work every day, Matt shared:

"I've been unhoused in the past with a severe problematic substance use disorder and just seeing what Wayspring can offer their members and wishing I could have had something like that during my hardest moments. I keep that in the back of my head. Plus, thinking, what did I need when I was going through that time in my life? And I try to be that for someone else."
